The main function

Every C++ program starts at main(). It returns an int to the operating system.

Definition and example

The main function is the focus of this lesson. Every C++ program starts at main(). It returns an int to the operating system. The task asks you to apply that idea in a small example: Where does a C++ program start executing. Before you run the code, predict what should happen. Then Inspect the program output and the compiler message if it fails and compare it with your prediction. If the result differs, change one relevant line and run it again. Testing one change at a time makes the cause of a result easier to understand.
